Album Review : Worlds Collide by Binary Park
by DJ Hangedman on Apr.11, 2011, under Album Reviews
Artist: Binary Park
Album: Worlds Collide
Label: Infacted Recordings
Review by: DJ Hangedman
Debut albums are always difficult to approach. You either have to nail it and come out strong, or produce a project that clearly shows your music has potential. You also have to firmly establish your “sound”. Binary Park’s release, Worlds Collide breaks the “sound” rule a little, but overall it’s both strong and full of promise for the future.
The album comes from a strong line of musical talent. Torben Schmidt has impressive credentials, touching some of the more amazingly successful projects in the scene including heading up the Infacted label. Along with partners Huw Jones and Alfred Gregl, Worlds Collide has managed to blend a number of elements with an industrial electro base and make it work really well.
In a world where it often seems subculture electronic artists are ashamed of being “electronic”, Binary Park charges forth with zeal to shamelessly combine elements of Industrial, Electro, EBM, and even a little Psy trance. Such a blend of styles runs the risk sounding disjointed, but BP serves it up purposefully, makes it work with the message that they won’t be tied down to a formulaic style, at least not out of the gate. Given the fact these three individuals are veterans in music scene, this is clearly no mistake. In fact, it’s refreshingly purposeful and Worlds Collide is a very exciting sampling of what we hope is the first of many from Binary Park.
